UN Women, the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, is proud to present HeForShe Arts Week. This is an exciting occasion for arts and cultural organizations to support the achievement of gender equality, engaging with UN Women critical mission to achieve planet 50-50 by 2030.
Coinciding with International Women's Day observed globally on 8th March, the inaugural HeForShe Arts Week is from March 8-15, 2016.
The inaugural HeForShe Arts Week is launching in partnership with the City of New York, home to UN Women global headquarters. During the inaugural Arts Week, partner institutions in New York City such as venues for ballets, operas, Broadway shows, concerts, as well as theatres, galleries, and museums will highlight the important issue of gender equality, leveraging this as an opportunity for dialogue and action. HeForShe Arts Week will come to cities around the world in 2017 and beyond.
The Public Theater serves as the inaugural theatrical partner for HeForShe Arts Week. The Public Theater, home of award-winning productions including Hamilton, Fun Home and free Shakespeare in the Park, has been a champion of diversity and equality on its stages, in its audiences and at the core of its mission for more than 60 years.
